How does the QESI work?
- Children can use QESI amounts to pay for their post-secondary studies—in some cases as soon as they turn 16.
- The child must be enrolled in a recognized post-secondary educational institution in Québec or abroad.
- QESI amounts can be used to pay for tuition, housing, transportation or even food.
How to get the QESI
To get the QESI, just open an RESP. The RESP provider will apply for it for you!
Information on RESPs
Anyone can open an RESP for a child under 17—parents, grandparents, guardians, other relatives or friends.
You can start contributing as soon as a child is born, and until they turn 17.
The Canada Education Savings Grant and Canada Learning Bond can also help you grow your RESP.
The QESI is paid once a year, in May.
